Pope & Smith Chelmsford Sunday League - Report for 13th May 2012

Coward Cup Final (at Heybridge Swifts FC, kick-off 2.30 p.m.)

  • Highfield Victoria overcame Ongar United in the Final but it took extra time to secure it. In an evenly matched first half neither team could make headway and the defences easily dealt with any pressure to send the tie in goalless at half time. In the second half it was Ongar who broke the deadlock and looked to be containing the repeated Highfield attacks until ten minutes before the whistle Highfield Victoria forced an equaliser. From then on it was all Highfield Victoria and Ongar were happy to hang on to force the added half hour. The Premier Division side continued to make the most of Ongar's weariness and slotted home three goals to make sure of regaining the trophy.

League Division Four

  • Ongar United Reserves travelled to Melbourne Park to play William De Ferrers Reserves needing all three points to keep their promotion hopes alive and duly did the job with a comfortable 6-0 victory.
